Ebook About
It’s a tale as old as time: the bad boy meets the good girl. He makes a daring proposition. Then the boy gets a mysterious head injury and loses a year of his life…The first time I meet Rickie, I don’t know what to make of him. The second time we meet, he doesn’t remember the six hours we spent together. Or standing me up afterward.I’m not the same, either. I’ve got secrets. I’ve told lies. Bad boys aren’t my type, anyway. Even the ones with troubled gray eyes. But now we’re roommates. Cue the awkward moments in the hallway when he’s wearing only a towel and a smile. He’s determined to win me over, and his talented hands weaken my resolve. It’s all fun and games until my past rears its ugly head and his secrets come to light, shaking our fragile connection, maybe even breaking it…Note: this is Daphne Shipley's story. Contents include Vermonty ice cream flavors, nerdy awkwardness, tattoos, and a playboy grandpa.

Book Waylaid (True North Book 8) Review :

I spent a lot of time reading Waylaid in righteous indignation, but, what cracks me up is that Sarina Bowen never gives me a lot of time to stew over it. I was cranky at Rickie because he ditched Daphne. Then two seconds later (slight exaggeration), I absolutely love Rickie and all that he stands for. Then, I was cranky for Rickie because his life was changed forever, with one bad decision. I was the CRANKIEST when Daphne was threatened by her DOUCHEWAFFLE ex (now I’m getting cranky again) and had to change her life plans because of him. But, all of those are forgotten because of a very sweet boy…I mean manly man, falling for a prickly and smart good girl.I am easily distracted by a good swoony romance, and Sarina Bowen has done a marvellous job with Waylaid. I am a wee bit bias though because Rickie and I have something in common. I survived a head trauma and lost parts of my memory. I am a little jealous of Rickie in that he fully understood the workings of the brain, and why and how his memory loss happened. All I know about mine is that I don’t remember the accident or the time around it and I have bouts of short-term memory loss, and spurts of body shaking anger. Mostly, I have it under control, but sometimes, it’s safe to hand me a coffee, tell me you love me, and lock me in my room. KIDDING!! Sort of…While I could sympathise with Rickie, I also struggled with his deep desire to know what happened. I guess for me it’s because I don’t want to relive smashing my face. With Rickie, he believes it was his own fault and his bad decisions caused his injury. The path to finding out what really happened is long and quite painful, and when it all comes out, it leads to one of my cranky episodes.Poor Daphne has always been the good girl. Years of dedication to her studies and putting socialising on the backburner felt like a complete waste of time when her ex threatened her academic reputation. Deciding to change schools and programs is a huge step to fix her problem but she knows she can’t leave things as they are. It’s all well and good to get her education back on track, but leaving her research in the hands of a spoilt and rich Senator’s son, who does not hesitate to threaten her, leaves her feeling sick. She is determined to make him pay for his deceit, and again, when it all played out in the end, I had another little huff and puff cranky fit.I absolutely loved watching the relationship between Daphne and Rickie develop. While Rickie comes across as a little shallow, he is really a thoughtful, sweet, and caring man. His determination to win Daphne over was at times funny but always sweet. He was so very patient, especially considering he didn’t know or understand why she was so cold to him. I loved that he had such a great relationship with his therapist and that she didn’t hesitate to put him in his place when he said or did something dumb to Daphne. Daphne was a wee bit stubborn…but she had every reason to be.I really like that Daphne had her life all mapped out, and even with her course being upset, she was determined to tweak her map and still reach her goal. I loved that Daphne realised her original map needed more than one tweak when love became as important as her goal.Together, Rickie and Daphne are surprisingly perfectly matched. With Rickie being as smart as Daphne, he could definitely hold his own. I loved that Daphne came out of her shell with Rickie's help and made some great friends because of it. They were so darned cute together and their chemistry jumped off the pages. The Shipley’s are back and Waylaid is coming in as one of my favourites. Grandpa is courting two women and is struggling to choose which one he wants. Ruth has decided it’s time she finds a wee bit of social life for herself. Griffin is loving being a Daddy, May is living her happily ever after, and Dylan is being his lovable and sex-crazed self. I love catching up with the gang and seeing them all living happy lives together.I absolutely loved reading Waylaid and I’m really hoping we get to see the Shipley gang again sometime soon. If you haven’t tried the True North series yet, you should definitely give it a go. You must start at the very beginning, a very good place to start…Stacey is Sassy, received an advanced copy of this story. Sarina Bowen's True North series has been one I've enjoyed from the very beginning and I love that we are still going! We've been introduced to both Rickie Ralls and Daphne Shipley in previous books, but I was so excited to read their tale and it was definitely one that will stay with me for some time.Daphne Shipley is back at home after leaving the school she had wanted to attend for years after something occurs that sends her reeling. She's keeping secrets from her family about why it is she's switched schools. When she realizes that the boy she met years earlier, on a six hour drive they took together, is her new summer roommate, she's definitely thrown for a loop. Especially when he doesn't remember her!Rickie is Dylan Shipley's college roommate and he's staying and working at the Shipley farm over the summer while he rents out his house to be able to save some extra money. Rickie is also still dealing with a traumatic event that happened to him that caused him to forget a period of time. He's in therapy and he is trying desperately to remember, but it's been slow going. Will he eventually remember that he knew Daphne before this summer? The connection between Rickie and Daphne was awesome ad undeniable. They not only had the physical chemistry, but they got each other on a level that most others wouldn't given the things they both had been through. I liked the slow burn of this relationship and one of my favorite things was the mystery surrounding what had happened to Rickie. The way it all unraveled as the book went on gave you just enough to keep you on the edge of your seat and I loved it.Waylaid is one of my favorite books I've read this year. Going back to visit the Shipley's in Vermont is always great, but there was something about this one that was that much sweeter.
