Book I Moved to Los Angeles to Work in Animation Review :

The look is cartoony, loose and fun with a limited color palette, as you might expect, but with a very sincere approach to working in the animation industry. The tone is generally optimistic that sheds some light on the risks/sacrifices young artists take to follow their passion. I'd hope other interested, non-artists might give it a read and learn a little bit about being a commercial artist. (I often thought of my friends and family who don't understand my profession as I read) The author and artist collected commentary from other artist friends which adds to the general perspective. I've worked in games and freelanced in tv animation a bit from the midwest, but I never committed to moving out west when opportunities were there. As such, I always wonder how much I might have regretted (or not) staying "home" near friends and family and how much I might have changed as an artist and person. This book offered a vicarious peek for me - just what I was looking for. Thanks much!
I obtained this kindlebook that is I Moved To Los Angeles To Work in Animation by Natalie Nourigat with money made from my current job even though it is far from my plans to reside in California or become an animator. The last time I resided in California was around the January 2005/February 2005 timeframe before I moved to Florida by late February 2005. Rather, I have dreams to potentially visit California though not reside because I have dreams to continue living on the east coast of the U.S. for the rest of my current lifetime regardless of my economic status(the multiple reasons for my east coast U.S. preference are something for another post). Still, there are multiple reasons why I was drawn to this kindlebook one reason being drawn to the story of an author who bravely made the leap to another state in a career field that is far from traditional. It is common knowledge that even relocating for a traditional job to another state is a huge deal and could be a major life changer for multiple people, and the fact that the author both moved to another state and into a creative career field was definitely something of an intriguing factor to me (even though I harbor career ambitions that have little to do with animation). This kindlebook could be a fascinating read for someone regardless of the type of career ambitions they have because the author candidly shares how many applications she had to go through before relocating to California to be an animator, she persuasively explains why it is far from necessary to be a model type looking man or woman with a mainstream beauty ideal bodyframe to work in animation though she is respectful in her writings of model looking readers who may fit the mainstream beauty ideal, some of the multiple companies in California that relate to her animation career, some of the people she networked andor connected with during her career journey, interviews with multiple people who have worked as animators, and more.
