This being my first time getting into a Green Lantern series, I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it might be a book about big, overpowered, rings. I didn't except it to be something I could actually relate to. But I was pleasantly surprised.Green Lanterns focuses on two characters: Simon Baz, and Jessica Cruz.Simon: The book starts off with Simon, a Muslim, wiping the word Terrorist" off of his sister's garage door. You immediately have this emotion and this feeling for the character. It really draws you in quick. He's a bit more experienced than Jessica, and so he takes that leadership role during this story, easily becoming one of my favorite characters in rebirth thus far.Jessica: Jessica is a character who struggles with severe anxiety. I can relate because I have the same thing. Anxiety isn't something you can truly explain, but man, does this book do a good job at really showcasing what anxiety truly is. But my favorite part about it, was that Jessica is learning to overcome her anxiety. And through that, it teaches you, the reader, to overcome anxiety. This is what comic books are all about. Relating to characters. Overcoming fears. Willpower. It's amazing.Conclusion: This book has some of the most emotional journeys; one's you wouldn't expect from two people with the most powerful weapon in the universe. Easily one of the best rebirth titles, and I won't hesitate to pick up volume two when it releases. Two rookie Green Lanterns battle the prophecy of the Red Dawn.....which is the Red Lantern's plan to make Earth into a planet of rage because Red Lanterns are fueled by rage instead of willpower like the Green Lanterns. There's a whole rainbow of Lanterns nowThis is my first time reading the "Rebirth" series by DC and it was really good.....much better than I was expecting. I'm kinda iffy on introducing the idea of Red Dawn in the first issue but it has potential. The two Green Lanterns are interesting characters. Hal Jordan makes a cameo before flying off to space to.....I don't know, join the Justice League somewhere in space because people just go into space casually in comic books.I'm on the fence about getting more of the Green Lantern books or any other of the "Rebirth" series although I hear that Wonder Woman is really good..
